Construction works started in October 2022 on the Waste to Energy (WtE) facility in Kelvedon, Essex, with the provisional acceptance certificate being issued on 18th April 2026, confirming that all construction and commissioning activities have now been successfully completed. Kanadevia Inova will also continue to provide support to Indaver under a long-term service agreement which was previously agreed in June 2025.
Located in a former quarry, the modern two-line Rivenhall IWMF will process up to 595,000t of non-recyclable (residual) municipal and commercial waste annually, which will generate 55MW of electricity – enough to power over 125,700 UK homes.
Rivenhall s the first WtE facility to be built and operated in Essex which will now treat residual waste as a valuable resource. The facility will not only divert waste from landfill, but will also reduce its carbon footprint, by negating the need to transport it long distances for out-of-county treatment or overseas export.
“We’re immensely proud to successfully design, build and commission the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility for our valued clients at Indaver. I would like to thank the many Kanadevia Inova colleagues and contractors for their long-term commitment to bringing the UK’s newest waste to energy infrastructure successfully and safely online,” said Daniel Dreier, Kanadevia Inova’s EVP, waste-to-x and renewable gas plants. “This modern facility continues the UK’s journey to delivering environmentally sustainable waste management solutions while also generating significant volumes of baseload energy.”
Kristien Schoonjans, group engineering director at Indaver, said: “The Rivenhall handover reflects the effective collaboration between the Indaver project team and Kanadevia Inova, with the fully commissioned plant now ready for Indaver’s operations team.”
