JCB introduced the 26C-1 and 25Z-1 mini-excavators just last year. In the 2.5-tonne class, they have broadly similar specifications except that the 26C-1 is 150mm longer, with a transport length of 4,3500mm as opposed to 4,200mm for the zero-tailswing 25Z-1.
The 26C-1 is also 125kg heavier at 2,675kg, compared to 2,550kg for the 25Z-1.
Both machines feature a redesigned cab, improved dig-end geometry and electro-proportional auxiliary, swing and dozer controls.
Crumlin-based Philip Wilson Land Drainage has taken delivery of the first 25Z-1 model in Northern Ireland (pictured above). It will be put to work on a range of agricultural, domestic and commercial contracting jobs across the country.
Supplied by dealer Dennison JCB, the 25Z-1 joins a JCB 56Z-2 compact excavator, 8008 micro excavator, CT160-100 vibratory tandem roller and a 531-70 Loadall telescopic handler already in Philip Wilson Land Drainage’s fleet.
Jeff Wilson, owner of the business, says: “We buy JCB because they are reliable and the back-up and service from Dennison JCB is excellent. This latest machine is ideal – it will be perfect for what we’re doing. We wanted to put a rotating grab on an excavator of this size, which we couldn’t do with our previous machine, so it was time for a change as we needed that capability.
“We’re keen to invest in zero tailswing machines as a lot of the work we do is in very compact areas, so this was a key feature for us. We also needed a machine which we could tow behind a pick-up which again the JCB can do so it’s the perfect machine for our requirements.”
Meanwhile Ayrshire-based Tom Grant Plant Hire has Scotland’s first 26C-1 (above), which was supplied by Scot JCB.
Tom Grant himself said: “I’ve had JCB 8026 models over the years, so it was a natural choice to upgrade to this new model. The 26C-1 is a good, strong, stable machine and has a lot of power for its size. It’s a good looking, well built, high quality mini excavator.
“We work with all sorts of customers, from small landscapers to large construction companies and everything in between. Projects include highways work, utilities, forestry and wind farms. We are general plant hirers so we require a fleet that can support a wide variety of applications for all our customers. For us, JCB fits the bill. It offers everything from compact equipment up to heavy duty excavators, all backed by the superb support from Scot JCB.”
