Cement producer Heidelberg Materials is the first company in the UK to invest in Volvo’s L120 Electric wheeled loader.
The machine is being used at the company’s Packed Products site in Nuneaton.
The L120 Electric is replacing a similar diesel-powered machine in the main bagging facility at the site. It is being used to move sand and aggregate as an integral part of the production process.

The wheeled loader has been supplied by Volvo, with ongoing support from distributor SMT GB, which also installed charging points and provided training for operators.
“The L120 Electric is performing very well,” says Heidelberg Materials UK sustainability director Marian Garfield. “As well as being emission-free, it is eight-times quieter than the diesel alternative and provides operatives with increased responsiveness and power.
“The battery run time has also been good, easily handling a normal 7.5-hour shift on one charge and with around 30 per cent remaining.”
