Willmott Dixon is building a £136m residential-led mixed-use development on the site of the former Bute Street Shoppers car park in Luton.

The Stage will have 292 residential apartments along with commercial units, a food hall/events space and a public garden square.

The project team also includes WSP and Rider Levett Bucknall as employer’s agent and project manager, and Artelia UK as quantity surveyor.

It is a key part of Luton Council’s town centre regeneration plans. The local MP, council leaders, project partners and stakeholders assembled on site yesterday (Thursday 5th  March) to sink the first spade.

Simon Ramage, managing director for Willmott Dixon’s London & East construction region, said: “Groundbreakings not only mark progress on site, but they’re also about recognising the people behind the project. Today celebrates everyone who has helped turn the vision for The Stage into reality. We’re proud that this project will not only deliver a great building, but also create jobs, opportunities and a lasting legacy for the local community.”
