Volvo launches new electric trucks

11 hours Volvo has launched new electric trucks for deliveries and for on-road works. On the delivery side, FH Aero Electric trucks can now travel 700km between charges. The next generation FH, FM and FMX Electrics feature a new drive train for more torque.

Volvo claims the 700km range of the FH Aero Electric marks a breakthrough for heavy electric trucks. A new driveline technology, the e-axle, makes room for more batteries, enabling the increased range. The truck meets the new Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard, and its eight batteries can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 50 minutes.

For customers looking to add machinery like concrete mixers, hook lifts or cranes to their trucks, the FH, FM, and FMX Electrics are fitted with a new dual-motor drivetrain with a purpose-built gearbox using eight gears to maximise electric torque. A power output of 540kW (731hp) can be achieved. An integrated gearbox power take off on these trucks allows for mounted machinery to be used while driving, and without the need for extra motors or other add-ons.

These trucks have a range of up to 470km, and go from 20% to 80% in a little more than an hour.
