Strike starts at Crane BS&U

2 hours Members of the GMB union at Crane BS&U, part of the Process Flow Technologies division of US-owned Crane Co, have started strike action in Hitchin.

The picket line at Crane BS&U on the first day of the May 2026 strike.

Members of the union employed at Crane Building Services & Utilities voted to strike over pay in April, the second strike action the union has called in two years. Previous strike action ended after five days in 2024, after union members voted to accept a 7% pay rise. The current strike is scheduled to last for two weeks.

GMB regional organiser Andre Marques said, "This strike action shows the strength of feeling among the workers at Crane BS&U. They are not prepared to accept less than they are worth. We remain open to meaningful dialogue to resolve this dispute and secure a fair uplift for our members.”
