The new hub has opened at Upton Hospital Slough, with work completed in under a year, using offsite techniques and BIM 3D modelling. Modules were pre-assembled off-site and watertight within five days of installation, reducing disruption, waste and programme risk within a live healthcare environment.

The offsite manufacturer took charge of the project, from design and module fabrication through to build and fit out, and included external works on a car park with EV charging infrastructure.

The project seeks to address health inequality in the area, and was launched following extensive community consultation in 2023. The hub will be open 12 hours a day, with capacity for 150,000 tests a year, including MRI, CT and ultrasound scanning, alongside respiratory and cardiology testing.

James Clarke, chief strategy officer at client NHS Frimley Health Foundation Trust, welcomed the hub鈥檚 opening: 鈥淭his is an exciting moment for the Trust and the people of Slough. The centre will play a vital role in addressing health inequalities by ensuring that diagnostic services are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live.鈥

Rory McGuigan, MD of Western, pointed out the value of modular, offsite techniques for projects like this that require fast delivery in a busy environment: 鈥淏y combining advanced off-site manufacturing, BIM-led design and a full turnkey approach, we have been able to provide Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust with a facility that is efficient, sustainable and future-focused. Most importantly, this centre will make a real difference to the people of Slough - enabling faster diagnoses, improving patient experience and supporting better health outcomes across the community. We are proud to have partnered on a project that reflects both innovation in construction and ambition in healthcare delivery.鈥
