Rolls-Royce picks suppliers for SMR programme

14 hours Rolls-Royce has appointed Škoda JS and Doosan Enerbility to produce key nuclear island components for its Small Modular Reactor programme.

The Czech and Korean companies will undertake pre-production work鈥攊ncluding for the reactor pressure vessel body鈥攅arly supplier engagement, design finalisation and manufacturing readiness to support the delivery of first power at the earliest possible date.

The agreement will help put Rolls-Royce on track to industrialise reactor production, a change from the current model where each new reactor is essentially designed and built from scratch.

The first Rolls-Royce SMRs will be deployed at Wylfa in the UK and at Temel铆n in the Czech Republic. The goal is to produce further units in a global fleet amplifying long-term opportunities for the supply chain and underpinning sustained growth.

Ruth Todd CBE, Rolls-Royce SMR's Operations and Supply Chain Director, said: 鈥淭hese are some of the most important long-lead items in nuclear plant construction. Forming strategic relationships now ensures these critical components can be designed for manufacture, reducing project risk and enabling on-time delivery.

鈥淎 dual-supply approach strengthens Rolls-Royce SMR鈥檚 supply chain and ensures delivery certainty. Both 艩koda JS and Doosan Enerbility have long and impressive records of delivering key nuclear island components including reactor pressure vessels and other related equipment at the heart of nuclear power stations, already operating and under construction around the world.鈥
