Robertson starts work on Scottish schools programme

1 day Robertson Group has started main works on the first new campus to be built as part of the North Schools Programme, which will see five local authorities building new school facilities.

Groundbreaking on the project, with councillors, students, and members of the project team.

The new campus is being built on the playing fields of the existing school, Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen, with classes continuing throughout the construction phase of the new building.

The North Schools Programme is being project managed by Hub North Scotland. Alongside its work on the new Hazlehead campus, Robertson will be working on projects in the Shetland Islands and Argyll & Bute. Balfour Beatty is taking on a project for Moray Council.

Elliot Robertson, CEO, Robertson Group, said, “Hazlehead is the first project to break ground in the North Schools Programme and it will provide increased capacity, modern teaching facilities and a more sustainable, future-ready building.”

Richard Park, chief executive of hub North Scotland, said: “This campus is going to be a transformational facility for pupils in Hazlehead, Countesswells and Kingswells for generations to come. It will be the largest learning estates project we have ever delivered for Aberdeen City Council and will create an outstanding education experience.”

The project is funded through the Scottish Future Trust. Stephen Long, senior associate director at SFT, explained the contract is structured around outcomes. “[These] include the ongoing good condition of the campus, energy efficiency targets, digital connectivity, economic growth and embodied carbon. When this campus is complete it will provide a high-quality, sustainable learning environment that supports teaching excellence and will enrich the lives of its pupils.”
