The 3.56MWp solar power system is expected to generate around 2.84 GWh of renewable electricity each year. Any surplus electricity will go towards powering the Walkers crisps manufacturing plant, one of the world鈥檚 largest crisp factories, next door to Pepsi's Southern Region Distribution Centre.
The project is part of a programme of electrification and energy saving by the drinks and snacks giant. It has switched to electric ovens at its site in Leicester, installed more efficient machinery on its manufacturing line in Coventry, and invested in new, more efficient fryers at its Brigg site, the home of Pipers crisps. Together, these three initiatives have, the company says, reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by around 2,400t a year.
