鈥淭his year鈥檚 transport budget, together with the funds we鈥檝e unlocked through the NSW government鈥檚 $20bn Rebuilding NSW plan, mean we can continue at rapid pace to modernise transport services and infrastructure across the state,鈥� said minister for transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance. 鈥淲e鈥檙e delivering game-changing projects that will set NSW up for decades to come, while investing in services that will improve everyday lives.鈥�
More than AU$1bn has been allocated this year for Sydney Metro rail projects, including AU$977m for the AU$8.3bn Sydney Metro Northwest 鈥� Australia鈥檚 largest rail project - which is now under way.
The state is also investing AU$84m on Sydney Metro City & Southwest to extend the line through the central business district and west to Bankstown, including a station for Barangaroo.
There is also AU$120m in the year鈥檚 budget for major construction of the Sydney Light Rail, AU$19m to progress planning for Western Sydney Light Rail and AU$103m to start construction on light rail in Newcastle.
Other allocations in the budget include the provision of funding to upgrade ageing transport infrastructure through AU$1.2bn for rail maintenance and AU$74m towards an operations centre. 聽
