Having built Kingsbrook School for Buckinghamshire Council in 2022, Morgan Sindall ԭ is now back there to make it bigger.
The extension, integrated with the existing building, will increase the school from six to eight forms of entry. As a result, the new 2,300 sqm, three-storey building will boost the school’s current capacity of 1,080 pupils (including sixth form) by a further 360 student places.
The project has been designed to meet a rising demand for school spaces in the Aylesbury area due to the surrounding Kingsbrook housing development.
The expansion will deliver 20 new classrooms, food preparation rooms, science labs, a new sixth form study and social spaces, and increase the size of the existing SEN area.
Morgan Sindall is using a traditional steel frame with precast floors for faster installation; improved build quality and reduced onsite waste are also promised.
To minimise disruption during term time, the project team established the building site during the October half term and has segregated construction activities to align with the school’s daily operations. Due to proximity of building work to the live school site, a tunnel has been put into the construction area to ensure that students can continue to access the sports facilities safely.
Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s cabinet member for education & children’s services, said: “When originally built, we ensured the school was designed to be able to expand for up to 10 forms of entry, so there is scope to expand further to keep pace with future housing growth.”
