Miller wins £48m school deals

5 Jul 13 Miller ԭ has been appointed as preferred contractor for 13 schools across the southeast, with a construction value of more than £48m.

Hampshire County Council, Reading Borough Council, Surrey County Council and West Sussex County Council have a shared services arrangement, working as the Property Services Cluster (PSC).  The PSC, which enables the councils to work together to save money, is using the IESE (Improvement & Efficiency South East) framework to deliver about 30 schools with a combined construction value of roughly £100m.

Miller ԭ has three of the nine schools in Tranche 1 and is already on site at all three. These are: St John’s CE (VA) Primary School in Reading; Boxgrove Primary School in Surrey; and Tweseldown Infant School in Hampshire. The combined contract value for these is £13m.  The contracts include a mixture of extensive remodelling, refurbishment, demolition and external works.

Miller is also delivering pre-construction services on 10 schools across Surrey as part of Tranche 2: De Stafford Primary, Stamford Green Primary, Cranmere Primary, Hurst Park Primary, Esher High School, Redhill, Horley NE, Langshott Primary, Earlswood Junior and Holmesdale Infant School, with a combined value of £35.5m.

Works have also started on the first school in Tranche 2, with the majority of these projects anticipated to be completed by September 2015.

Miller ԭ is working collaboratively with the PSC authorities and the other contractors who are delivering the remaining 18 schools in the first and second tranches.

Miller ԭ chief executive Chris Webster said: “This appointment reiterates our continued commitment to our strategy focussing on long-term partnerships and framework agreements.  We have a proven track record in the education market and we are confident the schools we deliver as part of this framework will leave behind a positive legacy for the pupils who will use them.”
