A two-mile stretch of the A75 between Hardgrove to Kinmount has seen a more-than-average number crashes. Overtaking provision is now to be built into it.
McLaughlin & Harvey was one of five contractors invited by Transport Scotland to bid for the job, along with Balfour Beatty, John Paul ÂÜÀòÔ´´, I&H Brown and RJ McLeod.
The winning bid was well under Transport Scotland’s initial estimate of £12m to £14m.
The scheme involves the introduction of a new offline section of carriageway to the south of the existing road, which will include an alternating third lane to provide safe overtaking opportunities for road users in both directions.
