Mac’s delivers to X-Hire and Eagle

4 hours Mac’s has hired a new Volvo FMX to X-Hire, and, over the course of a year, sold 12 DAF’s to Eagle Plant Hire.

Mac鈥檚 Truck Rental delivered the 32t Volvo FMX 8脳2 beavertail to powered access and plant supplier X-Hire Platforms on a long time hire agreement. The latest truck marks the first time X-Hire Platforms has opted for a Volvo FMX chassis, replacing an older rigid from another manufacturer supplied by Mac鈥檚 Truck Rental, mounted with an identical spec low-profile access beavertail body. X-Hire Platforms operates a 13-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which includes 10 currently provided by Mac鈥檚 on long-term hire.

Manny Butunu, transport and logistics manager for X-Hire Platforms, says: 鈥淲e鈥檝e worked with the team at Mac鈥檚 Truck Rental for many years, and in that time they鈥檝e developed an excellent understanding of our business. When it came to this latest truck, they helped us with the decision to switch manufacturer, ensuring we got the right spec to meet our needs.

鈥淢ac鈥檚 advised us on the best chassis choice for payload capacity, which was also tough enough to deliver to a wide variety of customer sites. The result was the Volvo FMX, which will provide us with improved reliability and excellent durability.鈥

Mac鈥檚 Truck Sales supplied 12 trucks to Eagle Plant Hire. The plant and welfare accommodation company celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and has been building its fleet over the the last year. It fleet now consists of 65 vehicles.

The most recent additions are four brand-new DAF XF 480 32t 8x2 rigid crane trucks equipped with Fassi F710RA.2.26 cranes, which follow the delivery of three DAF CF/XD 26t 6x2 plant beavertails, plus three DAF XD450 6X2 26t Flatbed鈥檚 fitted with Fassi F545RA.2.25 cranes in late 2025, all designed and built in-house by Mac鈥檚.

鈥淥ur business has grown, and we鈥檝e added extra trucks to the fleet, but we also have a strategic replacement schedule that works for us,鈥 said Nick Barrow, managing director at Eagle Plant Hire.听

The latest DAF deliveries fulfil two distinct roles: the 6x2 beavertails transport heavy plant machinery, while the 8x2 32t flatbed lorries are equipped with Fassi cranes, with twist locks placed throughout the bed and drawbar trailers to restrain secure stores, office accommodation, and welfare units from 10鈥32ft.

鈥淢ac鈥檚 has always been willing to work personally with our business, and with our engineering director, Alan Cradock, in particular," Nick added. "Between them, they have designed a body that will accommodate every configuration of the cabins within our fleet. This allows the safe and efficient transportation for the delivery and collection of plant machinery or site accommodation to our customers鈥 requirements, every time.鈥
