Hounslow launches £7.5bn Golden Mile London plan

1 hour Hounslow Council in west London has published a 15-year regeneration programme that envisages the construction of 14,000 homes in the borough.

Golden Mile London is a programme to bring Hounslow Council together with investors, developers, businesses and anchor institutions to deliver up to 拢7.5bn of investment along the Great West Road.

The four kilometres of the A4 between Heathrow and central London has long been considered as one of west London鈥檚 most important economic corridors. The art deco Hoover Building is a landmark of Britain鈥檚 industrial heritage; today the Golden Mile London is home to 37% of the UK鈥檚 broadcast media jobs with Sky, Warner Bros and Discovery among business based there.

Hounslow Council鈥檚 Golden Mile London vision and framework documents set out a plan for growth. The council as already committed 拢1.15m to the programme and early priority projects, including the Golden Mile Innovation Hub and improvements to the A4 to help kickstart delivery.

The council planning committee recently approved plans for the transformation of the former GSK headquarters at 980 Great West Road, brought forward by Hadley Property Group. The scheme will create a mixed-use neighbourhood with around 2,300 homes and 320,000 sq ft of commercial and community space.

Alongside this, the council and the University of West London (UWL) are working with Hadley Property Group on plans for a Golden Mile Skills and Innovation Hub. This proposed project aims to support upskilling residents, launch start-ups and scale-up businesses across the creative, digital and technology sectors.

Following its London launch, the Golden Mile London is being showcased this week at MIPIM, a British-run real estate conference in Cannes.

Rob Tincknell, a former chief executive of the Malaysian-owned Battersea Power Station Development Company who subsequently set up Areli Developments, is chair of the Golden Mile Business & Developers Forum. He said: 鈥淕olden Mile London is a story that hasn鈥檛 really been told 鈥 until now. The vision launched today, underpinned by seven principles to make it happen, gives a clear sense of our ambition. Investors, businesses and Hounslow Council are collectively aligned to make this unique place absolutely extraordinary in the years ahead.鈥
