St Helens Primary School in Headland accommodates 374 pupils, including additional resourced provision (ARP) for 25 children with special educational needs.

The project is a cost pilot with the DfE to explore best practice and improve value delivered through the DfE鈥檚 school rebuilding programme. The new two-storey building will be designed to be net zero carbon in operation (NZCiO) and will incorporate design principles to maximise energy efficiency and help minimise long-term running costs.

In addition to classrooms, the new building will also have a main hall, library, nursery, staffroom and both hard and soft external play areas.

Handover of the new school is due in summer 2027.

Jeremy Barnett, managing director of Galliford Try North East and Yorkshire, said: 鈥淪t Helens鈥 existing buildings have exceeded their expected service life and we鈥檙e looking forward to delivering a modern learning environment that enables students to reach their full potential.鈥
