The apprenticeship standards, which were developed by groups of employers brought together under the auspices of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES), have been the subject of extensive industry consultation. They were submitted to the Apprenticeship Unit of the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) in June. These have now been signed off and approved as meeting the required criteria.
Skills minister Nick Boles said: 鈥淏y designing apprenticeships, organisations like the Building & Engineering Services Association and their employer groups are ensuring that talented young people develop the skills needed to progress up the career ladder and help drive businesses forward.鈥�
Work to develop standards for ventilation hygiene and other relevant fields will start next.
Consideration is also being given to higher- and degree-level apprenticeships for building services engineers.
