The London mayor saw some of these infrastructure opportunities at first hand as well as two large 鈥榟igh value opportunities鈥� (HVOs) 鈥� the 拢1.7bn West Kowloon Cultural District HVO entailing construction of 17 performance venues and the regeneration of the former Kai Tak airport site, including new cruise terminal designed by Fosters and 拢2bn multi-purpose sports complex.
Other major opportunities include addition of third airport runway by 2020 鈥� a 拢11bn opportunity for UK business 鈥� and implementation of the 2020 vision of expanding the rail network into the Pearl River Delta.
During his visit, the mayor sought to encourage the trade and investment symbiosis across urban development, infrastructure and transport sectors between London and Hong Kong. He met with some of Hong Kong鈥檚 and the mainland鈥檚 largest developers. With a collective war chest of 拢500bn this group could comfortably finance the next decade of London development, he found.
