BAM wins ASTI contract

1 hour BAM UK & Ireland has won its first contract under the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework for a substation in Aberdeenshire, delivered under a JV with Siemens Energy, for SSEN Transmission.

The JV will build the Greens substation for SSEN Transmission. BAM UK & Ireland will play a central role in delivering the new 400kV substation which will strengthen Scotland鈥檚 electricity transmission network and enable the connection of renewable energy to homes and businesses across the UK.

The scheme marks an important milestone in the transition to clean energy, with the project agreed under the new ASTI framework, designed to accelerate the planning and construction of grid infrastructure across the UK.

The Greens substation scheme forms part of SSEN Transmission鈥檚 wider 拢29bn investment to upgrade the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland, supporting the growth of clean energy while delivering jobs, infrastructure and long-term economic benefits for communities across the region.

Adrian Collins, director of energy networks Scotland at BAM UK & Ireland, said: 鈥淭he UK has a big challenge ahead to reach net zero, and upgrading the electricity transmission network will be crucial in the transition to renewable energy.

鈥淭his is BAM鈥檚 first project as part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, which focuses on enhancing electricity transmission through significant investment, and marks the continuation of our strong working relationship with SSEN Transmission as we support the delivery of critical energy infrastructure across Scotland.鈥

Paul Cooley, director of onshore capital delivery at SSEN Transmission, said, 鈥淭he signing of this contract with BAM and Siemens Energy marks a major step forward for our Greens substation project, and we are delighted to be working in partnership to deliver this vital infrastructure.

鈥淭his project will strengthen the network for the transition to clean energy, and we look forward to main construction getting underway this summer once early works are complete.鈥
