The 鈥楪ateway Project鈥� will provide a distinctive entrance to the campus from Salford Crescent railway station.
Designers have targeted a BREEAM rating of 鈥榚xcellent鈥� for the building.
Completion is set for early 2016.
Construction of the seven-storey building, designed by architect Stride Treglown, was originally scheduled to begin in early 2012 and be complete by April 2014. . At that time the project cost was estimated at 拢35m.
The investment is part of wider plans to improve the campus. Last year the University refurbished and extended its 1960s Chapman Building at a cost of 拢9m. During the summer a further 拢1m was spent improving library services.
