With Chinese-made powered access equipment taking an increasing share of the market, the government trade watchdog is stepping in to see if UK manufacturers are being unfairly disadvantaged.

The Trade Remedies Authority has launched an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation into boom lifts imported from China at the request of UK manufacturer Niftylift.

Anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations assess whether imported goods are being sold below fair market value or benefiting from unfair government support, which can harm UK businesses.

The scope covers telescopic and articulated boom lifts (including their relevant sections and sub-assemblies) with a working height of six metres or more. It specifically excludes scissor lifts, forklifts, vertical mast lifts, mobile self-propelled cranes and motor vehicles that incorporate a scissor arm assembly or boom assembly.

Business and trade secretary Peter Kyle said: 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 raising a Christmas tree or raising the bar for fair competition, British businesses deserve a level playing field. This government has signed trade deals worth billions of pounds. But our trade strategy is not just about seeking new opportunities overseas, it鈥檚 also about defending British firms and ensuring a strong and fair trading environment back home.

聽That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 crucial independent investigations like this protect UK industry and we encourage everyone to engage fully in this process.鈥
